LODD: Dallas, TX Firefighter William Scott Tanksley Dies After Fall From Icy I-20 Overpass

Dallas Firefighter William Scott Tanksley, 40, Died in the Line of Duty last night while operating on an icy overpass in Dallas, Texas. Tanksley was a 14 year veteran of the department. He leaves behind a wife and three children between the ages 4-12. Tanksley was stationed at firehouse #12.

Updated at 10:18 p.m.: Dallas Fire-Rescue reported that the firefighter who fell from Spur 408 on Monday evening has died.

William Scott Tanksley, a long-time DFR firefighter, was killed while assisting in a motor vehicle accident.

WFAA is reporting that the firefighter who fell from an icy I-20 overpass has died of his injuries. WFAA.com: A firefighter was fatally injured Monday night after either falling or being being knocked from an icy overpass by a vehicle in Southwest Dallas. According to initial information, the firefighter was working at the scene of an accident at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Spur 408 when that individual tumbled to the pavement below. There were reports the firefighter may have been hit by a vehicle.

Dallas firefighters and officers have shut down Interstate 20 at Spur 408 after a serious crash has caused major traffic delays.

Dallas Fire-Rescue has reported that one of its own firefighters was injured, and has been rushed to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

The firefighter fell of a bridge near I-20 at Spur 408 in southwest Dallas, according to initial reports. The firefighter’s condition is unknown as this time.

A Dallas firefighter has been seriously injured after falling off a North Texas interstate overpass.

The firefighter was working an accident atop the Spur 408 bridge when he fell off the overpass and onto Interstate-20. It was at least 30 feet fall, if not more.

Right now it is unclear if the firefighter slipped on the wet or icy road, or was forced off the overpass by a vehicle.
