FC note: The video above is the drone video. The video below shows some ground footage. It might also be noted that Dave LeBlanc (BackstepFirefighter.com) was on scene of this fire and can be seen in the video below at the :35 second mark. By the looks of the yard, I am sure these guys had their hands full.

Video info: HARWICH – Shortly before 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, Harwich Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the corner of Pleasant Lake Avenue (Route 124) and Drum Lane. Upon arrival of first due units, fire was blowing out of the first-floor doors and windows and spreading rapidly throughout the large two-and-a-half story residential structure. Fire Chief Norman Clarke Jr. immediately called for a working fire assignment and shortly thereafter a second alarm, bringing personnel and apparatus to the scene from Brewster, Orleans, Dennis, Chatham, Eastham and Yarmouth, as well as numerous move-ups throughout the area to provide station coverage.

Due to the very active fire throughout the structure, difficult access to the front and rear of the building due to heavy brush and material in the yard and apparent hoarding conditions throughout the building, the Incident Commander made the decision to fight the fire from the exterior using large-diameter hand lines, deck guns and elevated master streams.

Initially, it was unknown if there were any inhabitants in the residence. As it turned out, the owner was not at home when the fire began but did appear at the scene during the firefight. Extensive overhaul was required to uncover numerous pockets of active fire, and it appeared that the building would be a total loss.

Route 124 from Main Street to Har-Wood Avenue, along with side streets in the area, were blocked off due to apparatus and fire hoses in the streets. It was expected that the roads could be reopened about 2:30 p.m.

There were no injuries reported. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by Harwich Police and Fire-Rescue.Video shot by Carl Jacobs.
