Modesto Fire Department Releases Video of Campus Way Fire Rescue

In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 14, a fire broke out at an apartment complex on Campus Way trapping two women in their apartment bathroom. Two Modesto Firefighters, Jesse Miguel and Jason Wyatt from Modesto Fire Truck 1, rescued the women via ladders; these two firefighters are being recognized tonight at the Modesto City Council meeting which will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the basement of 1010 Tenth Street.

At tonight’s meeting the following video will be shown:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25_JeGlDmVQ&feature=youtu.be. The video includes audio from the dispatch center, footage of the fire from a private citizen as well as from the Modesto Police Department body cameras which captured the dramatic rescue.

Many agencies and personnel were involved in making this rescue a success, like the call taker and dispatchers at Stanislaus Regional 9-1-1 who helped talk to the trapped women and relay critical information to officers and fire personnel, and the Modesto Police Officers who helped rescue the women’s dogs prior to fire personnel arriving on scene. An emergency incident like the Campus Way fire requires seamless cooperation among multiple agencies in an often chaotic and rapidly changing environments and this video showcases this cooperative effort.
