9 Alarm Fire in Boston Injures 5 Firefighters and 2 Others (3 Videos)

BOSTON (CBS) – Firefighters were battling a nine-alarm fire in Boston’s Allston neighborhood Wednesday evening.

Crews reported heavy fire when they responded to an apartment building on Harvard Terrace at about 5:45 p.m.

Boston Fire says the blaze started on the rear porches of the three story brick apartment building and spread inside and up through the roof.

Firefighters were in the apartment by 6:20 p.m. and preliminary searches show that everyone made it out of the building safely.

The Boston Fire Department tweeted that as of 6:30 p.m. the fire had reached 5 alarms and one firefighter had been transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

At 7 p.m. BFD confirmed the fire had reached 7 alarms and the building was evacuated due to a fear of collapse.

At 7:30 the 9th alarm was called for the fire as dark fell. Five firefighters were treated , including two who were taken to the hospital, and two bystanders were hospitalized with minor injuries.
