NJ.com:

Fifty people were left homeless after a fire tore through a pair of multi-family homes in Passaic late Saturday night, officials said.

Despite intense flames that leaped from the back of one house across a driveway to the other, there were no serious injuries among residents or the 50 firefighters from six communities who fought the blaze, said Battalion Chief Ken Payne of the Passaic Fire Department.

The firefighters, from Passaic, Paterson, Clifton, East Rutherford, Wallington and Carlstadt, took about an hour and a half to control the fire, which was called in at 11:25 p.m. Firefighters cleared the scene around 3 a.m., Payne said.
