Dozens of firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze that engulfed two abandoned buildings in Paterson that apparently were being occupied by several squatters.

Paterson Fire Chief Michael Postorino told The Record that squatters came out of the buildings as crews arrived, but he said no one lived legally at either site. It was not immediately clear how many squatters may have been in either building.
