Video: FDNY’s Rob Wiedman Speaks About His Care at the New York Presbyterian Hospital

I know Rob Wiedman from is work with the Sons of the Flag (Burn Foundation). Rob is a great guy and inspirational for his recovery. Read about the fire Rob was injured in here.

Video info: FDNY veteran Rob Wiedman thought he was fighting a routine fire—until the building exploded in flame. He escaped—but only barely: he had burns covering 60% of his body. Rob was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian, which has long been the go-to hospital for New York firefighters and first responders.

Rob’s burns were so severe that NYP doctors induced him into a coma for 2 weeks to stabilize him and begin what would eventually be numerous skin graft surgeries. In all, Rob spent over three months at the hospital as burn specialists, surgeons and physical therapists worked to bring Rob back. He says his NYP team were the heroes, but the day Rob was discharged, he got a hero’s escort all the way home.
