A fire sent smoke and flames pouring from Syracuse’s United Methodist Church on Sunday evening, apparently destroying the century-old building.
A group of Boy Scouts discovered the fire about 6:30 p.m. after entering the church for a meeting, Syracuse Fire Chief Bruce Neemann said. No one was injured.
Neemann and Mayor KC Ortiz said they did not yet know the fire’s cause. No one was inside the building immediately before the Boy Scouts entered and discovered smoke.
Ortiz called it a sad day for Syracuse.
