Sheriff’s detectives are looking into a possible murder/suicide in Santee.

The Santee Sheriff’s office responded to a call at 2:34 p.m., Saturday, from a man who stated that he was going to kill his wife, burn his house down, and shoot anyone who approached the residence and kill himself.

When the Sheriff’s Dept. arrived at the home on 8567 Clifford Heights Road in Santee, the house was already on fire. Sounds that were believed to be from small arms ammunition could be heard exploding inside the home.

Firefighters were unable to get to the burning house because of the man’s threat and armed deputies watched over them. The entire house burned, while firefighters concentrated on protecting neighboring structures. Deputies helped an elderly woman out of harm’s way.
