Firefighters in breathing apparatus used six main jets and the aerial ladder platforms to tackle the blaze.

The fire had started in the middle, original part of the building, and around 60 firefighters worked extremely hard to stop the fire spreading. They contained it to the area of origin, saving the two extensions on either side. It also meant that the smoke didn’t affect the carriageway too much and the A1(M) remained open throughout.

The stop message came in at 2036.

40 % of the building has been destroyed.

Fire Investigation Officers are working alongside Police Scenes of Crimes Officers are currently carrying out an investigation into the cause of the fire.
