Big Tree Volunteer Fire Company Firefighter Jarrett Eleam passed away Wednesday. He fell ill during training with his fire company on Monday night. Eleam, who graduated from Erie County’s Firefighter I Boot Camp class this past summer, died at Mercy hospital in Buffalo. His arrangements are being planned.

FDNY responded to more than 500,000 emergencies in 2010. This is a new record for the department. FDNY continues to be the busiest department in the United States. Meanwhile, the Mayor has proposed decreasing the manpower on engine companies and creating a 20 fire company brownout during the evening.
