Firefighters from Engine 6, designated as a rapid-intervention team, rushed into the building, located their colleagues and pulled them out to safety. One engine at all fires is designated as RIT, and has no job at the fire except to be prepared if other firefighters get in trouble.

A 3rd alarm was requested on arrival after companies found heavy fire on the 5th floor and attic of the 5 sty apartments over commercial building. A 4th, 5th and 6th alarms were requested a short time later.

"Many of the units were not evacuated so a lot of our immediate resources went in to make sure the building was cleared," says Ware Fire Chief Thomas Coulombe. (source cbs3springfield.com) This might be the reason for lack of water from the view of the video. The firefighters were able to make it to the 2nd floor, but the 3rd floor was too hot.

Fires from New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts

A fire at the Carriage House at the Cranwell Resort in Lenox has destroyed the historic building. The fire broke out just after 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Fire departments from 20 surrounding towns were called in to help battle the blaze.

A ruptured (and burning) gas line hampered firefighters while battling a 3 alarm fire in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. The fire would end up injuring 4 firefighters. One of the tenants in the house is a local paid on call firefighter. The fire was at 12 Hazel St. in Uxbridge.

A cold storage warehouse fire in Albany, New York might burn for days according to authorities. The fire has many reminiscing of the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse Fire back in 1999 that claimed the lives of 6 firefighters.
