A huge, out-of-control fire caused catastrophic damage to a quarter-billion-dollar apartment complex under construction at Fourth Street near China Basin in San Francisco on Tuesday evening, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

Paterson Fire Chief Michael Postorino told The Record that squatters came out of the buildings as crews arrived, but he said no one lived legally at either site. It was not immediately clear how many squatters may have been in either building.

Large commercial building fully involved. 2 tower ladders and a snorkel. Radio traffic layered in.

Not much information on this fire. The helmet camera footage catches the side of the house collapsing into the side yard right on top of a hoseline.

Help the Good Guys, a non-profit organization supporting injured first responders in financial need, has announced plans to assist two severely injured Texas firefighters with a month-long fundraising campaign. The campaign will begin March 1 and end March 31, 2014.

Barnas was a 29-year veteran with the Jersey City Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of captain. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Wallington Fire Department since 1972, and was the department’s chief in 1997, Tomko said. Both his sons are also firefighters.

San Francisco firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at a service garage for a cab company in the Bayview-Hunters Point area Monday, which sent a huge plume of black smoke over a large part of the city.
