A fire caused major damage to a two-story home in San Mateo on Wednesday evening, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to reports of a fire on the first floor of a home at 29 Otay Ave. at about 7:15 a.m., according to the San Mateo Fire Department.
East Meadow, New York

A college student was sleeping in his bedroom at 22 Crabtree Lane Friday morning when he woke up around 9:47 a.m. to find his house was on fire, reported the East Meadow Fire Department’s First Assistant Chief Carl Pugliese.
The resident jumped out of his second story window and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with minor injuries, Pugliese said.

The two-alarm fire broke out in a house that was believed to be unoccupied after being sold about two months ago. The cause is not yet known.
The home is on the two-lane road near the intersection of Quigley Hill Road. Firefighters reported flames and heavy smoke billowing from the home when they arrived a little after 11 a.m.
