Helmet Camera

On February 14th, 2015 , Marshall Fire was dispatched to a reported house fire at approximately 10:27 am. First arriving personnel found an outbuilding located directly adjacent to the residence fully engulfed with some extension to the home. Crews quickly knocked the fire with only minimal damage to the residence.

This is the power of helmet cameras. Handsfree...you can create great training video as well as video provided to the public showing what we face in during fires. Great job!

Ladder rescues can be very dangerous to not only the victim but also for the firefighters. Aerial rescue is not always possible, as seen in this video. These firefighters buy a little extra time in rescuing this victim and the route to safety ends up being the safest of all possibly. Great edit, great video, and great job!

Mutual aid working garage fire in the borough of Northumberland, PA. We arrived with 6 on the Tower (542) and immediately went to work assisting the engine crew.

The other day, I cam across the video above. It is helmet camera video of a brush fire in Australia. I bookmarked it, but I didn't watch it until this article popped up about the helmet camera video. It got me thinking. Read on for more of the article and more thoughts on usage of video.

Short clip from my helmet cam this morning (3rd working fire in 7 days). We arrived on scene with 5 on the Tower. First of all the weather outside was 5 degrees at the time of dispatch with a windchill of negative 10 degrees. This is a mutual aid area for us outside of the city, with this exact location being down a one lane road (no hydrants). Because of this tanker operations were set up to begin a water supply. Well for those of you who know how the weather works, freezing temperatures usually lead to freezing water.
