1 Firefighter Killed, 3 Injured in Hartford, CT 2 Alarm Fire

Fire investigators worked Wednesday to determine what caused the fire Tuesday night at 598 Blue Hills Ave. and how firefighter Kevin Bell was killed and firefighter Jason Martinez badly burned.

Bell, 48, a six-year veteran, served with Engine 16 at 636 Blue Hills Ave. Martinez, who has been a firefighter since 2007, is assigned to Tactical Unit 1 at 275 Pearl St.

Martinez, 29, of Manchester, suffered burns over 10 percent of his body and was transferred by helicopter to the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition Wednesday.

One other firefighter is in at the Bridgeport Burn Center with burns to 10% of his body.

Firefighters battled a house fire on Blue Hills Avenue Tuesday night, finally dousing the flames after 7 p.m. Three firefighters were taken to the hospital, sources said, as firefighters were still fighting the blaze at 598 Blue Hills Ave.

Three firefighters were rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after they were hurt while battling a massive house fire on Blue Hills Avenue in Hartford, according to police. Police said some firefighters could have serious injuries but have not elaborated on their conditions.

Officials say four firefighters were injured. One firefighter is currently in critical condition and another firefighter has serious injuries and was transported to the Bridgeport Burn Unit. The injuries of the other two firefighters are not considered serious.
