It is with deep regret we inform everyone of the passing of Deputy Chief Ron “Moose” Wentzel, Jr. Ron was the beloved husband to Dianne Wentzel and devoted father to his son Josh.

Moose was well known in the Emergency Services as having served over 30 years as a Firefighter, serving at various departments. His most recent duties included being a First Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Reading and a Deputy Fire Chief for the Western Berks Fire Department. Prior to working for the City of Reading, Ronnie was a Police Officer for the Borough of West Lawn and promoted through the ranks to Police Chief.

Ronnie was an inspiration to many and as an instructor, he was able to travel and pass on his infamous knowledge to many. He was able to teach many to be calm, cool and collective even with the worst incidents. He made training more interesting and encouraged those around him to want to train more and better themselves.

Most would consider Ronnie to be a Hero, an Inspiration to many. We would have to agree as he was ALWAYS willing to help others in their time of need. It was his passion and a calling that he proudly answered! No matter the time of day he always answered the call and was able to do so due to a supportive family.

We at Fire Alerts of Berks County express our deepest condolences to Dianne, Josh and the rest of the Wentzel family, his fellow brothers and sisters with the RFD and WBFD as well as all those who had the honor and privilege to know him and work beside him.

Ronnie fought a long, hard battle with cancer, longer then was expected. He passed away early this morning surrounded by family and loved ones.

Rest Easy Brother, We’ve got it from here.
