Web Design Tip from HoopieWorld

If you haven’t checked out HoopieWorld you should do it right now. The site is a fire/ems news site designed for a large portion of Pennsylvannia.

logoThe editor, Jeff Bertok has an editor’s blog where he adds his personal touch to the site.

On one of his posts he writes about embedded music (link)

I agree with him totally. I cannot stand getting to a site and listening to music…even if I like the song! It is just one more step for me in turning off the music once I find the damn button before I can enjoy your site.

Jeff writes:

My first tip, is half tip – half rant.  I know many feel very strongly on this topic and it can really harm your site and chances of people sticking around and checking it out if you don’t follow my advice.  My advice is to NOT have embedded music on your site.  Embedded music is the music that starts playing as soon as the visitor goes to your site.  There is nothing more annoying, or more likely to cause visitors to click away from your site than to have music start blaring out you once a visitor lands on your site. I will have to check back regularly on his editor’s blog. I think him and I have a lot in common. We both run State Fire/EMS News sites and we both have an enjoyment of web design concepts. Much like I write about various stuff that helps out bloggers, site designers, and potential new webmasters.
